WNBA Announces 2007 Schedule; Dispersal Draft Monday

POSTED: 9:56 pm EST January 4, 2007

(Sports Network) - The WNBA announced its 2007 schedule on Thursday, although the league will now operate with 13 teams, one less than last year, due to the Charlotte Sting folding.

The regular season is exactly three months long, starting Saturday, May 19 and ending Sunday, August 19.

There are six games on the opening day schedule, including the anticipated 2006 Finals rematch between the Sacramento Monarchs and Detroit Shock. The Shock will receive their championship rings and the franchise's second championship banner will be hoisted to the rafters. It will also mark the start of a new era for the Monarchs, as Jenny Boucek takes over as head coach.

Under the 2007 season's 13-team format, the Eastern Conference will feature six teams - Connecticut, Chicago, Detroit, Indiana, New York and Washington. The Western Conference will have Houston, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Antonio and Seattle.

Also, a dispersal draft involving players on the Charlotte Sting roster will take place on Monday afternoon. Chicago, which finished with the worst record in the 2006 season, will pick first, followed by Minnesota, New York, San Antonio and Phoenix.
