Get set for a one, two punch of wintry conditions this weekend...first, a snowy Saturday into Saturday Night...most of us should get enough to shovel, and some of us may get enough to plow.

Then, a bitter blast of Arctic Air moves in during Saturday Night and Sunday, and continues thru early Monday, before moderating a bit Monday afternoon and much more so Tuesday.

Expect a general 2-5" of snow. There will be lesser amounts well inland away from the storm... 1-3" west of 495. Over the Cape we may see some rain or a mix during the first part of the storm, which should also keep the totals in the 1-3" range.

Before that system gets here we have a beautiful day headed our way today (Friday), with highs 46-52, even though we are starting out frosty in some of the suburbs (teens and 20s) while Boston is near 32.

Clouds move in and thicken tonight and there could be just a touch of light snow or rain very late at night.

The main part of the storm will start Saturday morning and may start out as rain or a mix, especially along the coast, and especially on Cape Cod and The Islands. But it will slowly turn colder during the storm, allowing any areas that start as rain or a mix to eventually change to snow (last to change on Cape Cod and The Islands). Winds will switch to NE-N during Saturday morning, then begin to increase in speed slowly during the afternoon.

Snow should continue into Saturday night, before ending completely later at night. Winds will start to howl from the N-NW as frigid air begins to move in, making anything wet or slushy become very icy. By dawn on Sunday, temps. will be 9 to 19, with wind chills averaging near or below 0.

Sunday looks partly to mostly sunny, windy and very cold with highs 19-26. There is a chance of a brief snow flurry or snow squall.

Temperatures are bitter cold overnight into Monday morning (lows 5 to 15) with wind chills expected below zero.

Temperatures moderate a bit Monday afternoon (highs 25-32) and much more so Tuesday (near 40).

Then the rest of next week looks relatively mild.

Have a great day!

Harvey
