Web Site Lets You Tattle On Your Neighbor

Residents Sound Off On Noisy Neighbors

A new Web site raises tattling to new heights. It's called RottenNeighbor.com, and it gives users a place to make public what used to be private backyard disputes.

So is it a useful tool for homebuyers scouting new neighborhoods or an invasion of privacy? Anyone thinking of moving next door is just a key stroke away from finding out about it. You start by typing in a ZIP code.

"A Google map comes up, and you can zoom down to your house to see if there are any markers of rotten neighbors nearby," creator Brant Walker said.

In just over a month, the site has gotten more than 30,000 postings. Clint Carey was shocked to find one of them was about him.

"It said that, according to one of my neighbors, that I sold out to a local developer here and that I'm using the proceeds to redecorate my house," he said.

There is no accountability for what you post. Anyone can make a complaint on the site, but if you lie about your neighbors in a way that harms their reputation you are liable.
