TV commercials broadcast Sunday night and posted on Apple's Web site confirm that the highly anticipated iPhone will be available June 29.

The combination cell phone, media player and wireless Web-surfing device will retail for $499 and $599, depending on the configuration.

It will be offered exclusively by AT&T's wireless division, formerly known as Cingular. Users who want the phone will be required to sign a two-year contract with AT&T.

The iPhone, which sports no keypad but instead a touch-sensitive screen, was unveiled with great fanfare in early January by Apple CEO Steve Jobs. He said it would appear in stores in June but gave no specific date.

At the time, Jobs described the phone as three great devices: a cell phone, an iPod music and video player and an Internet browser with nearly the full capabilities of Apple's OS X operating system.

Within the last week, Apple has given more indications that the phone could be open to applications from other developers, not just Google, which partnered with the company for certain functions on the phone.

Usually, Apple does not announce products until they are ready to take orders and ship.
