Massachusetts taxpayers affected by the April nor'easter have been given an extra two days to file both their federal and state tax returns.

The deadline was extended to midnight Thursday for storm victims who were unable to get their returns in the mail because of power outages, road closures or, in some cases, evacuations.

The Internal Revenue Service said people filing paper returns can mark their returns with the words "April 16 Storm," while electronic filers can use their software's "disaster" feature, if available.

Massachusetts state returns should be marked in the same way, said Revenue Commissioner Alan LeBovidge.
