WCVB's Sky 5 Helicopter

POSTED: 2:10 pm EDT July 19, 2006

When it comes to covering a fast-breaking story, WCVB's Sky 5 helicopter, the Eurocopter AS350B Astar, is known for its dependability, versatility, speed, open interior, large load capability, quiet operation and outstanding performance.

It's large enough to carry cameras, equipment and crew, giving NewsCenter 5 viewers up-to-the-minute live reports on any situation around the Bay State.

The AS350 has a six-seat capacity (including the pilot) and a normal cruise speed of about 149 mph (130 kts) and will carry about 2,300 lbs of baggage and people.

Sky 5 was built by U.S. Helicopters, Inc., which is one of the largest providers of full-service, exclusive-use Electronic News Gathering (ENG) helicopter programs in the United States. WCVB began flying its newest chopper in July 2006.
