3/25/06: Ivy

Tips By Dave Epstein

Today we are going to show you several verities of ivy and also how to make your own ivy tower.

Ivy comes in many varieties and is quite easy to grow both inside and out. Most of the varieties you get from a florist or other indoor supplier are meant to be kept inside. These plants make nice hanging plants, or just a side plant on a coffee table.

The darker green varieties of ivy need less light than the variegated ones. So be aware of this. If your plant gets too leggy, you can pinch it back and this will promote more growth from the center of plant.

There are some ivy plants that are hardy here in New England. You can use them for groundcovers or to climb up a trellis. They are not recommended for brick or wood on the sides of your house because they can damage the material.
