BOSTON -- Finding the right athletic shoe is often overwhelming -- even for the experienced shoe shopper. There are so many choices and such broad price ranges that it can be very confusing. Listed below are some tips that may help make your selection easier:If you participate in an activity 3 or more times a week, buy shoes specifically made for that activity (running -- running shoes, tennis -- tennis shoes, etc.) Go to a store that has a trained sales staff -- people who know how to fit your foot Do some of the moves you will be doing during your activity (jog, walk, step side to side, etc) Wear the same kind of socks you will wearing for your activity (thick, thin, high, low) Make sure the shoes feel comfortable immediately -- don't count on breaking them in Replace workout shoes every 3-6 months if you wear them 3 or more times a week. The outer part of the shoe may look brand new, but the inner cushioning will be worn and may not provide the support needed to help reduce the impact forces to your body and protect you from injuries. Remember that buying good shoes is an important investment. They help protect your body from injury, as well as add to your comfort and the enjoyment of your activity!
