"Chronicle," WCVB-TV’s nightly newsmagazine, has a new face behind the anchor desk. Peter Mehegan co-hosted his final broadcast on Sept. 2 after 23 years with the award-winning program. Until a permanent successor is named, Anthony Everett will assume Mehegan’s role alongside Mary Richardson. Everett will continue to co-anchor NewsCenter 5 at 5 and 5:30 p.m.

Mehegan looks forward to exploring new ventures and will remain with "Chronicle" as an occasional contributor. Viewers will continue to enjoy Mehegan’s jaunts Down East in the Old Chevy.

"After 40-plus years in Boston broadcasting, 23 as co-host of 'Chronicle,' I felt a need to change my life, to seek out new challenges and free up time for family and extended travel. I will miss the loyalty of the 'Chronicle' audience and the bond we established over the years. I look forward to continuing my association with 'Chronicle' through regular forays to Maine in the Old Chevy and in other reporting I'll do from time to time," Mehegan said in a statement.

Everett will bring his news expertise, storytelling skills and extensive knowledge of New England to the post. In addition to his anchoring duties, Everett will contribute stories in the greater Boston area.
