Each week, NewsCenter 5 presents a high school senior who has taken the lessons of the classroom and applied them to life.

This week's A Plus student is Hopkinton High School's Caitlin Gorski, who stands in the spotlight and embraces it.

Senior year is the crossroads to adulthood, but Gorski has already made that transition. On the day NewsCenter 5 visited, Gorski was perfecting her monologue in acting class.

"We did one where we had to say it backward -- word-for-word backward," Gorski said.

She is president of her class and serves on the Student Council.

"I moved here in the seventh grade and tried so hard to fit in. No one talked to me for two weeks. I went home and cried every day. I was like, whatever, I am going to stop trying to be everybody else's person," Gorski said.

Gorski was the energy behind Job Fair 2003, which helped homeless people find work. One person was hired by Filene's and four others got positions at Costco.

"About 20 people have gotten jobs from the fair," she said.

Her resume is full of leadership activities and community service.

Gorski was honored in New York City last weekend by YM Magazine as one of the 20 coolest high school girls in America.
