BOSTON -- This week, we saw the headlines and repeatedly asked the question -- Why? Why has it taken two years for Massachusetts legislators to consider Gov. Deval Patrick’s proposal limiting the sale of firearms to just one per person, per month? Seems like a no-brainer.Why not prevent someone without a criminal record -- or morals -- from buying unlimited weapons in order to sell them to criminals? With more innocent children becoming victims, such a measure is vital. Why did it take so long for the mayor and Boston firefighters to compromise and forge a deal? A new agreement was reached late Tuesday night, after years of wrangling, but we still ask why should taxpayers pay anything to any public safety employee, to simply show up for work clean and sober? The city's firefighters certainly deserve a raise after all these years, for their important and courageous work, not as a basic requirement of reporting for work. Finally ... why would a New Hampshire school allow two teens, charged in the murder of Kimberly Cates, to appear in their high school yearbook? While extremely insensitive to the victim’s family -- it is a mystery why the school would want any ties to these teens. All week long we have been asking. "What were they all thinking?"
