UPDATED: 10:26 am EST March 28, 2005

WCVB-TV's Web site, The Boston Channel.com, has been recognized for excellence again in 2005 with its fourth consecutive regional Edward R. Murrow Award.

The awards will be formally presented at an awards dinner in Newton, Mass., on April 2 hosted by the Radio and Television News Directors Association.

The awards are among the most coveted and prestigious in broadcast journalism, honoring the late Edward R. Murrow, a pioneer who ushered in the golden age of television news with his reporting on McCarthyism in the late 1950s.

WCVB's Web site, TheBostonChannel.com, was launched in April 2000 and logged more than 11.7 million page views in February 2005. More than 1 million unique users visited the site in the same month.

The honor recognizes the three-person Web site's journalistic excellence and enterprise reporting for stories on the Democratic National Convention, Sen. John F. Kerry's presidential run, the Red Sox World Series victory and the ongoing church crisis.

The Web site is staffed by editors M.R.F. Buckley, Jamy Pombo and Veronica Haynes.

The regional RTNDA awards qualify WCVB to compete in the RTNDA's national competition later this year.
