IT System Administrator

WCVB-TV has an immediate need for an IT System Administrator with the technical ability to work in a multi-platform environment. The candidate will be responsible for installation, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of all systems. Duties include but are not limited to; account management, software installation, system security, patching, and optimizing. Candidate will also perform system backups, maintain inventory, licensing, support for handheld devices and desktop support.

Required Skills:

2-4 years of administration experience BS degree in Computer Science, MIS, IT and/or certification or equivalent Exceptional communication and organizational skills Strong knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and Active Directory

Part-Time Digital/Web Editor

JOB SUMMARY: This is a hands-on journalism position, gathering and writing news stories, images and video and publishing for WCVB digital platforms, including TheBostonChannel.com.

A major focus of the position is delivering breaking news quickly, accurately and in a compelling manner with text, video and photos and other digital-based technology. This job requires a through understanding of how to promote interactivity and audience engagement with a digital audience.

This is a part-time weekend position for 10 hour days on Saturdays and Sundays.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Writes and edits materials for target audiences integrating compelling and creative text, still images, audio- and video-file components, and links to relevant Internet resources into an appealing and thoughtful online package.
  • Updates the Web site throughout the day, coordinating with station news department for the latest news and features.
  • Creates and helps maintain special sections of the Web site as assigned, including, but not limited to, news, sports, health, community, environment and politics.
  • Oversees special Web projects developed by the staff by using latest technology available.
  • Streams live video events and other major station initiatives.
  • Ensures accuracy of stories by double-checking any necessary facts in assigned projects.
  • Possesses online savvy to provide added value to reports initially developed by broadcast staff.
  • Replies to user e-mail and/or routes appropriately.
  • Maintains open communications with TV station staff and fosters a collaborative environment to benefit both the online and on-air.
  • QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES) REQUIRED:
  • Experience in journalism or web writing
  • Experience in print news organization a plus. Knowledge of Associated Press-style writing required.
  • Must have the ability to multitask in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Needs to be a self-starter, self-motivated but also have the ability to take direction.
  • Editor should be familiar with image-editing software such as Adobe Photoshop or Elements and comfortable using a Web content management system.
  • Should be competent with HTML code. Knowledge of latest Web development tools and languages a plus.

    Digital Content Research Associate

    TheBostonChannel.com, Boston’s number one television Web site, seeks a self-starter with a passion for digital content to research aggregation and hyper-local content.

    The research associate will identify content sources for next-generation Web sites that emphasize aggregation from blogs and on-line publications.

    In addition, the associate will research and identify hyper-local data produced by judicial, municipal, community and school data sources.

    This position requires the ability to evaluate these content sources for accuracy, as well as the value and interest of information. The ability to write detailed reports and make recommendations is an essential qualification.

    This is a full-time job for a 10-12 week period.

    Full-Time Graphic Designer

    WCVB-TV/DT Channel 5 (ABC, Hearst-Argyle Television), Boston's most-watched station for local news, local programming and #1 television website and Boston’s first and only station to broadcast news and local programming in High-Definition, has a rare opportunity for a full-time Graphic Designer.

    You should have an excellent eye for design, excellent computer skills and be a solid speller who can meet tight deadlines. We operate Deko Systems, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Cinema 4D. Candidates with animation, flash and web skills preferred.
