WCVB Wins AP Honors, Edward R. Murrow Awards

WCVB-TV/DT Channel 5 won a total of nine awards at the annual Associated Press/regional Edward R. Murrow banquet Friday night. WCVB was honored as STATION OF THE YEAR by the AP at the event and was also recognized for best newscast, breaking news, continuing coverage, sports program, breaking news videography, weather presentation and public affairs. The NewsCenter 5 team won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for continuing coverage of the ice storm.

WCVB President and General Manager Bill Fine said, “Winning the Station of the Year honor is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our entire news team. It’s very gratifying for the WCVB team to be recognized for the tremendous work they achieve on a daily basis.”

In 2009, WCVB has been nationally recognized with three Headliner Awards and two Gracie Awards. WCVB’s parent company, Hearst-Argyle Television won a Peabody Award for Commitment 2008 coverage. Also this year, HTV was awarded a fifth consecutive Walter Cronkite Award for Political Journalism.
