WCVB-TV/DT Channel 5 Plans Series Of DTV Education Events

  • WCVB-TV/DT Channel 5 will host a series of events on-air, on-line and in the community next weekend, May 16-18, in an on-going effort to offer viewers a comprehensive guide to understanding the transition to digital television in February 2009. The switch to digital television in February 2009 is said to be the biggest change in television viewing since color.

    Digital Truth” Web cast -- Friday, May 16 Susan Wornick will host a live, half-hour web cast Friday, May 16 on TheBostonChannel.com. She will be joined by WCVB Engineer Rick Zach. They will answer viewer questions through email and phone about the transition.

    Community Event – Museum of Science -- Saturday, May 17 On Saturday, May 17 from 1-5PM the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) will bring their Digital Road Show to the plaza immediately in front of the Museum of Science. Visitors will be able to learn more about digital television and view the differences between digital and analog transmission. This interactive exhibit is designed for all ages.

    CityLine -- Sunday, May 18 Karen Holmes Ward, Host and Executive Producer of CityLine, will anchor a 30-minute special about DTV and how it impacts WCVB viewers, especially those in rural and urban communities.

    News Coverage The NewsCenter 5 team examines the issue from every angle throughout the year. Led by consumer reporter Susan Wornick, viewers will get a complete overview on DTV, information on converter boxes, how and where to get them and background on buying a new, digital television.

    Public Service Announcements WCVB is broadcasting a series of ‘Digital Truth’ psa’s explaining the transition and how it will impact local viewers featuring Ed Harding.
