WCVB-TV/DT President and General Manager Bill Fine announced Wednesday new anchor teams for Channel 5’s evening, late news and early morning newscasts.

Ed Harding and Heather Unruh will now co-anchor Monday - Thursday at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. and Sunday at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.; Harding and Liz Brunner will co-anchor Monday- Thursday at 6 p.m.; Brunner will be joined by Bob Halloran for the Friday 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts; and Pam Cross and Halloran will anchor the Saturday 6 and 11 p.m. broadcasts.

In announcing the moves, Fine said, "We are adjusting our anchor schedule from a position of strength. WCVB is No. 1 in total viewers in almost every newscast throughout the day -- with these moves we are able to maximize the anchoring and reporting strengths of Ed Harding, Heather Unruh and Liz Brunner over six nights. We are ensuring the best local, live coverage for our viewers every night of the week."

In explaining why WCVB moved Unruh off the early morning newscast to evenings Fine added, "Heather has been the consummate team player in working a split shift for more than two years, but there had to be an expiration date on such a grueling schedule."

WCVB News Director Coleen Marren said, "We are fortunate this adjustment enables us to have accomplished journalists in the field and at the anchor desk for every newscast and every breaking news event. Viewers will appreciate having a reporter/anchor of Liz Brunner's stature contributing in-depth interviews with local and national newsmakers. She will continue to play a significant role in major news events, especially for Commitment 2008 political coverage and the upcoming Papal visit to the United States."

Bianca de la Garza has been named co-anchor of the EyeOpener 5- 7 a.m. newscasts with David Brown.

Fine said, "During the past several months, Bianca has done a terrific job of reporting and anchoring on NewsCenter 5 and has already made a positive impression on our audience. Viewers will absolutely enjoy starting their day with Bianca, David and JC Monahan."

The entire line-up will be effective Sunday, March 9.
