WCVB Honored With National Award From MDA

BOSTON -- WCVB-TV 5 has been honored in the Muscular Dystrophy Association's 28th Annual Broadcast Journalism Awards.The awards recognize television programming that increases public understanding of the neuromuscular diseases targeted by MDA and awareness and support of the Association’s programs.WCVB received Gold Awards in two categories. Its entry titled “Myozyme Report,” produced by Marlea Regan, won in the MDA-Funded Research category, while “Walsh Family Interview,” produced by Ann Marie Charland, was honored in the MDA Telethon Live Interview category.The station has been part of MDA’s national “Love Network” for 35 years. Some 190 “Love Network” stations broadcast the annual Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon, and many feature MDA-related programming throughout the year.“It is so important to educate the public about neuromuscular diseases, and MDA’s mission to stop them,” MDA National Chairman Jerry Lewis said. “We are very grateful to the talented team at WCVB for their outstanding work that helps spread the word about MDA’s mission.”WCVB’s awards were among 31 winners selected from nearly 300 entries in this year’s nationwide competition.MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.
