Actor Condenses 'Star Wars' Into One-Hour Play

POSTED: 11:30 am EDT October 27, 2005

The Force is with off-Broadway performer Charles Ross in a most unusual way.

Charles Ross has condensed the original "Star Wars" trilogy -- "Episode IV – A New Hope," "Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back" and "Episode VI -- Return of the Jedi" -- into an hour-long show.

Ross plays all 40 parts in the play himself in the production, called "One Man's Star Wars Trilogy."

The performer gave a taste of it on NBC's "Today" show.

  • To represent the opening of the films, Ross sings to the tune of the "Star Wars" theme, "There go the yellow words describing the plot of the movie before."

Ross adds commentary along the way. When Obi-Wan Kenobi told Luke the lie that Darth Vader murdered his father, Ross makes believe Obi-Wan's nose is growing like Pinocchio's.

According to Ross' Web site, the performer first performed the show in Toronto in 2001.

The show apparently has gotten the blessing from "Star Wars" creator George Lucas: Ross was invited to perform his "Star Wars" show at Lucasfilm's official movie release convention for "Star Wars: Episode 3 -- Revenge of the Sith."

Ross has done a similar show for "Lord of the Rings," called "One Man Lord of the Rings."
