Rangers Take Second Straight Over D-Backs Arlington, TX -- (Sports Network) - Gary Matthews Jr. hit a two-run home run and Kevin Mench drove in three runs, as Texas took its second straight game from Arizona, 8-4, in the middle contest of a three-game interleague series at Ameriquest Field. Michael Young finished 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and Matthews also scored twice for Texas. John Koronka (5-4) was staked to a large early lead and pitched into the sixth inning. The left-hander gave up two runs on four hits with four walks and one strikeout in 5 1/3 innings. Kevin Jarvis (0-1) was hit around to the tune of eight runs on nine hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts in five frames. Chris Snyder drove in three runs and Shawn Green clubbed a solo homer for Arizona, which has dropped four consecutive games. The Rangers attacked Jarvis immediately for three runs in the bottom of the first frame. Matthews was hit by a pitch and stole second base before coming around to score on Young's single to center. Young also swiped second before Mark DeRosa walked, and both men moved up one base on a wild pitch. Mench replicated Young's feat, slapping a 2-2 pitch back through the middle for a two-run single. Each team plated a run in the second inning, as the Diamondbacks got on the board when Snyder hit a sacrifice fly that scored Damion Easley. Young's sacrifice fly allowed Gerald Laird to cross the plate in the bottom of the frame for a 4-1 edge. Back-to-back singles by Hank Blalock and DeRosa got things started in the bottom of the third, and Blalock scored on Mench's groundout. Texas seized a 7-1 advantage in the fourth inning after Jerry Hairston, Jr. tripled and Matthews drilled a two-run homer over the fence in right-center field. Mench doubled with one out in the bottom of the fifth and scored when Laird doubled to right field. Staring an 8-1 deficit in the face, the Diamondbacks plated three runs in the top of the sixth. Green hit a solo home run with one out then Eric Byrnes and Orlando Hudson followed with consecutive singles. Both runners came around to score on Snyder's double for an 8-4 game.
