Red Sox Try To Extend Remarkable Streak Against Orioles(Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox hope to continue their recent mastery of the Baltimore Orioles this evening when they attempt to compile a sweep of their three-game set at Camden Yards.Boston has already beaten the Orioles eight times this season and has won the last 13 matchups between the clubs, including the past eight in Baltimore. Boston's win streak against Baltimore is its longest since the Orioles moved from St. Louis in 1954. It is also the longest streak against any opponent since Boston ripped off 15 in a row over the Seattle Mariners from May 4, 1977-June 17, 1978 The Red Sox continued to own the O's in the second game of the series on Tuesday, as David Ortiz knocked in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and the Boston bullpen made it stand in a 6-5 triumph. Manny Ramirez and Trot Nixon each homered for the Red Sox, who have won three of their last four overall. Curt Schilling (6-2) picked up the win despite allowing five runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings. After Mike Holtz closed out the sixth, Mike Timlin tossed two perfect innings and Jonathan Papelbon notched his major-league leading 14th save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth. Brandon Fahey and Jay Gibbons each hit two-run homers for the Orioles, who have lost two straight after winning three in a row. Reliever Todd Williams (1-1) was saddled with his first loss of the season, yielding one run on two hits in the sixth inning. Baltimore, which last defeated Boston back on September 2 of last season, is just 4-16 against teams that are above .500 this year. Getting the call for Boston tonight will be veteran right-hander Tim Wakefield, who is unbeaten over his last three starts and has wins in each of his last two outings. On Thursday, Wakefield allowed three runs on six hits in six innings to improve to 3-4 on the year to go along with a 4.03 earned run average. The knuckle-baller's success has coincided with the return his personal catcher Doug Mirabelli, who was re-acquired from San Diego on May 1 after being traded to the Padres in the offseason for second baseman Mark Loretta. Wakefield has beaten the O's twice already this season and is 13-11 lifetime against them with four saves and a 3.98 ERA in 39 games, 26 of which have been starts. Baltimore will pin its hopes on left-hander Erik Bedard, who is 0-2 over his last four starts after winning his first four outings. Bedard earned a no decision Friday against the Kansas City Royals, as he surrendered three runs and six hits in five innings of his team's 6-5 win. Bedard was hammered by the Red Sox two starts ago and is just 1-3 in his career against them with a 7.57 ERA in six games - five starts.
