Garnett Misses Game With Knee Tendinitis

POSTED: 7:29 pm EDT April 9, 2006

(Sports Network) - Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett missed Sunday's 84-83 victory over the Atlanta Hawks due to tendinitis in his right knee.

Garnett, the 2003-04 league MVP, had started 351 straight games, which led the NBA. He missed his first game since February 19, 2001 against Dallas.

Garnett, who is averaging 21.8 points, 12.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists this season, has stretched his franchise-record double-double streak to 33 contests. That's the longest one-season string in 23 years, since Moses Malone had 44 in a row from November 27, 1982 to March 4, 1983 with the Philadelphia 76ers. Garnett has a league-leading 62 double-doubles on the year.

Incredibly, Garnett has posted 269 double-doubles since the start of the 2002-03 season, easily outdistancing his nearest rivals Tim Duncan and Shaquille O'Neal by a wide margin.

The Timberwolves also played without guard Ricky Davis, who sat out with a groin injury.
