Chapel Hill, NC -- Wallace Wright returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and Connor Barth kicked three field goals, leading North Carolina to a 16-14 upset of 19th-ranked Boston College at Kenan Stadium.

Matt Baker threw for 211 yards on 20-of-32 passing for the Tar Heels (4-4, 3-2 ACC), who have won two of their last three games and will host Maryland next Saturday. Jesse Holley had 125 yards on eight receptions for UNC.

Quinton Porter completed 16 of his 26 passes for 144 yards in the loss for the Eagles (6-3, 3-3), losers of two straight after a four-game winning streak. Andre Callender chipped in 45 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.

Boston College hosts North Carolina State next weekend.

Wright took the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and gave the Tar Heels a 7-0 lead just 17 seconds into the game. Wright had trouble with the football inside the 10-yard line before picking up key blocks down the right sideline for the score.

Boston College, though, responded with a 12-play drive that covered 63 yards in 5:19. Callender capped the march with a game-tying, three-yard TD run with 9:24 left in the first quarter.

Barth then kicked a trio of field goals to make it a 16-7 contest. His 20-yard chip shot with 23 seconds left in the first quarter staked UNC to a 10-7 edge.

He then booted a 22-yard field goal late in the second quarter and the Tar Heels owned a 13-7 advantage at halftime.

North Carolina drove the ball into BC territory and settled on a 44-yard field goal by Barth for a 16-7 lead with 4:14 to go in the third quarter.

It was all defense from there until the Eagles finally played like a ranked team. Boston College marched 80 yards in 11 plays and pulled within 16-14 on Larry Lester's 10-yard TD catch with 44 seconds remaining in the game.

Justin Phillips then recovered the ensuing onside kick and the Tar Heels ran out the clock for the win.
