NHL Game Summary - Boston At Philadelphia

POSTED: 1:50 am EDT October 26, 2009

(Sports Network) - Claude Giroux notched the lone goal of the shootout as Philadelphia clipped Boston, 4-3, at Wachovia Center.

After four scoreless shooters, Giroux opened the third round by making several stick fakes on the forehand before slipping a shot inside the right post. On Boston's turn to keep the game alive, Michael Ryder drilled a shot through to the left post, but it caught iron and bounced out to end the contest.

"There are great shooters on this team, but I didn't want to let the guys down," said Giroux. "I was pretty happy to score. I like it, there's more pressure and responsibility."

Chris Pronger, Darroll Powe and Arron Asham tallied for the Flyers, who snapped a three-game losing skid. Ray Emery made 23 saves for his fourth win of the season.

Derek Morris, Matt Hunwick and Steve Begin scored for the Bruins, who have lost two of three. Tuukka Rask was strong in defeat, making 36 stops.

"We're happy, we're playing hard," said Morris. "At the beginning of the year we were kind of in-and-out. One period we were good, one shift we were good, the next shift we were bad. We're getting a consistent game back, which is good come down the long run."

Pronger's slap shot from the point beat Rask high to the glove side with 7:57 to play in the first period, but the Bruins countered on the power play with 2:34 left as Morris' point shot changed direction on its way to the back of the net.

Hunwick's chance from the left point hit a pair of bodies in the slot on the way past Emery for a 2-1 Bruins edge at the 7:36 mark of the second, then Powe lifted a loose puck over a scramble in the crease a little more than a minute later.

Asham's wrister from the right circle put the Flyers ahead with 6:54 left in the period, and Begin countered for the Bruins with 3:34 to go for a 3-3 deadlock.

A Bruins power play late in regulation nearly netted Philly's winning goal, as Jeff Carter moved in on a short-handed breakaway, but Rask stopped his backhand chance.

Game Notes:

The Flyers hadn't beaten the Bruins in Philadelphia since March 10, 2007...Boston has won five of the last nine meetings...Ole-Kristian Tollefsen netted a pair of assists for Philly.
