Posts Drawn For North America Cup At Mohawk

POSTED: 4:38 pm EDT June 23, 2009

(Sports Network) - Post positions have been drawn for Saturday's running of the $1.5 million North America Cup at Mohawk Racetrack. The one-mile event features 10 of the top three-year-old pacers in training.

Leading the field are the four elimination winners from last week. The top two finishers in each elimination advanced along with two third-place pacers who were drawn by lot. The elimination winners were able to select their positions.

Well Said, Dial Or Nodial, If I Can Dream and Mr Wiggles each won an elimination race last week at Mohawk. Well Said, the 2-1 morning-line favorite, will start from post five with Ron Pierce driving.

Mr. Wiggles will be driven by Corey Callahan from the two post and is 15-1 in the program. Starting from post three will be Dial Or Nodial, 4-1, with Brian Sears at the reins. If I Can Dream, 5-1, and driver George Brennan will leave from the four hole.

Well Said, the 2008 Breeders' Crown champ, has won two of three starts this year for $38,500. Trained by Steve Elliott, Well Said has career earnings of $649,627.

"He came out of the race good," Elliott said Monday. "Ronnie keeps putting him on the front end, and he's not a front end horse. He's much better chasing horses, but he did what he had to do and got us in the final. It's never easy going in this class, it's the top of the top. It's a real good field of three- year-olds."

The 3-1 second choice is Keep It Real, who lost to Well Said last week. Driven by Steve Condren, Keep It Real will start from post six after suffering defeat for the first time in seven career starts.

"I'm actually quite happy with the six-hole," said Condren. "We had a chance to get the rail but six is definitely better than far outside. I expect there will be a little bit of movement (on the front end). The bottom line is I hope to be number one at the end. Now, we just need everything to go our way."

Here is the complete field in post position order for the North America Cup: OK Boromir, Luc Ouellette, 15-1; Mr Wiggles, Corey Callahan, 15-1; Dial Or Nodial, Brian Sears, 4-1; If I Can Dream, George Brennan, 5-1; Well Said, Ron Pierce, 2-1; Keep It Real, Steve Condren, 3-1; Art Colony, John Campbell, 8-1; Chasin Racin, David Miller, 20-1; Annieswesterncard, Tim Tetrick, 25-1 and Millionaire Cam, Jody Jamieson, 30-1.

The North America Cup has a scheduled post-time of 9:40 p.m. (et).
