Boston Celtics 2009 Draft Preview

(Sports Network) - Kevin Garnett's knee injury ended any hopes of a repeat in Beantown this past season but that doesn't mean the Celtics are entering any kind of rebuilding phase.

When healthy, Boston is as good as anyone and Garnett's three-year contract extension kicks in at the beginning of next season, meaning the C's should be a solid championship contender for years to come.

Garnett teams with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen to give Doc Rivers the veteran leadership he needs, while Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins and Glen Davis (a restricted free agent) bring the young legs and energy.

The team lacks depth, however, and really missed super-sub James Posey in 2008-09. Getting a contributor in this year's draft will be tough, however, since the Celtics have just one pick -- the 58th overall.

Players under contract: G Ray Allen; G Tony Allen; F Kevin Garnett; G J.R. Giddens; C Kendrick Perkins; F Paul Pierce; G Gabe Pruitt; G Rajon Rondo; F Brian Scalabrine; F Bill Walker

Draft picks: 2nd round (58th overall)
