Redskins Sign OL Williams; Cut P Johnson

POSTED: 7:41 pm EDT April 24, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Washington Redskins signed free agent offensive lineman Mike Williams on Friday and released veteran punter Dirk Johnson.

The 29-year-old was last on an NFL roster in 2006 when the Jaguars inked the five-year vet. A recurring back injury landed him on injured reserve, though, an ailment that also curtailed his time in Buffalo (2002-05). Williams has appeared in 51 NFL contests, starting 48, all for the Bills.

Johnson, a veteran of seven NFL seasons with Washington, Philadelphia, Chicago and New Orleans, was originally signed by the 'Skins on March 5.
