(Sports Network) - Matt Janning tallied a team-best 20 points, one of four starters to score in double figures, as the Northeastern Huskies defeated the Wyoming Cowboys, 64-62, in the first round of the second annual College Basketball Invitational at Arena Auditorium.

Chaisson Allen added 16 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals for the Huskies (19-12), followed by Nkem Ojougboh and Eugene Spates with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Ojougboh also logged a game-high nine rebounds on the night.

The Cowboys (19-14) were paced by Brandon Ewing with 22 points, followed by Afam Muojeke and Adam Waddell with 16 and 11 points, respectively.

Shooting just 2-of-7 behind the three-point line and 36 percent from the field in the first half, the Cowboys had to be pleased with a four-point deficit at the break, 32-28.

In the second half Wyoming again had trouble shooting the ball beyond the arc (2-of-9), which allowed Northeastern to capture the win.

The home team finished the night shooting just 4-of-16 behind the three-point line and 16-of-24 at the free-throw line in the narrow setback.

The Huskies, who won their first postseason game since 1984, will now face off against the winner of the UTEP/Nevada battle in the quarterfinals of the event on Monday.
