POSTED: 12:57 am EDT March 14, 2009

(Sports Network) - Kyle Singler tied a career high with 26 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked six shots, as No.9 Duke survived a dogged effort from Boston College to post a 66-65 win in an ACC quarterfinal tilt from the Georgia Dome.

Duke moves on to the semifinals Saturday against Maryland, which upended eighth-ranked Wake Forest, 75-64, in the tourney's preceding game.

Gerald Henderson had 16 points and Jon Scheyer recorded 14, hitting four three-pointers for Duke (26-6), which placed second in the ACC along with Wake Forest, but because of tie-breakers fell to the third seed.

The Blue Devils closed out their regular season with a loss to North Carolina, but that setback came on the heels of a five-game winning streak.

Duke has won 10 of the 12 meetings with Boston College, but the Eagles snapped an eight-game slide against the then-No. 6 Blue Devils with an 80-74 upset back on February 15.

Tyrese Rice scored 17 points with for Boston College (22-11), which opened the ACC tournament with a 76-63 victory over Virginia.

Biko Paris was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor en route to 15 points for the Eagles, and Joe Trapani had 12 points and nine rebounds.

Duke was down 29-22 at the half, and shortly into the second half went on a 16-6 run. The Blue Devils hit four consecutive three-pointers, including two from Scheyer, and the run put them up 42-40.

Another Scheyer three-ball a short time later came during a 12-3 surge. Henderson also hit from beyond the arc during the stretch, and the Blue Devils opened up a 54-46 lead with 8:13 left.

Rakim Sanders and Singler then traded threes before BC got things going on the offensive end and ran off a 14-6 stretch. Paris' three-pointer with 1:40 remaining ended the run to tie the game at 63.

Trapani got to the line for a pair of free throws after Singler hit just 1- of-2 from the stripe to give the Eagles a 65-64 edge with 52 seconds left.

Henderson came back on the other end, backed down a defender, and rolled right for a lay-in that flipped the score for a one-point Duke lead.

Sanders drove the hoop for BC but a Singler block sent the ball out of play. Paris threw the inbound pass into traffic, allowing Scheyer to secure a loose ball. He was fouled but missed the front end of a 1-and-1.

BC got the rebound and called timeout with 10.6 ticks to go. Sanders held for the final shot and heaved up a three for the win, but it was off the mark and Duke's Lance Thomas secured the ball, sealing the win.
