(Sports Network) - Boston Celtics guard Ray Allen left Wednesday's 89-77 win over the New Orleans Hornets with a hyperextended thumb.

Allen, who finished with one point in the game, suffered the injury in the first half and did not return, having played 18 1/2 minutes. X-rays came back negative.

Allen said he would try to play Thursday against Dallas, and described the injury.

"Early in the game I was underneath, I think it was (Kendrick) Perkins. My hand got caught in his jersey," Allen said. "I popped off and I caught the ball and then I couldn't even catch the ball (later) because it kind of jammed all of the way down. As I was running I was trying to yank on it. I tried to hold it in as the game went on. When I tried to catch the ball, I couldn't hold on to the ball."

The All-Star Allen, who was named to the Eastern Conference team as an injury replacement for Orlando Magic guard Jameer Nelson this past Thursday, entered Wednesday's game averaging 18.2 points per game this season through 53 contests.
