Ball State Names Parrish New Head Coach

POSTED: 6:16 pm EST December 18, 2008

(Sports Network) - Ball State University has named offensive coordinator Stan Parrish its new head coach, according to athletic director Tom Collins.

His four-year contract has a base salary of $350,000 with additional academic and performance incentives. Parrish has served as the offensive coordinator for the last three seasons and was the quarterbacks coach in 2005. He was one of the five finalists for the Broyles Award in 2008, which is annually given to the nation's top assistant coach.

"We are extremely excited Coach Parrish has agreed to become the head football coach at Ball State," Collins said. "He has been instrumental to our program's success, and we look for that to continue as we move forward. The process to find out new head coach was done in timely fashion, but our first and foremost concern was to do what was best for the student-athletes in the Ball State football program."

Parrish will serve as the team's coach in the GMAC Bowl against Tulsa, after former coach Brady Hoke left to become the head coach at San Diego State. Ball State posted a 12-1 record this season, including an 8-0 MAC conference record, before falling to Buffalo in the conference title game.

Before Parrish's stint as an assistant on Ball State's staff, he was part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl championship season, serving as an assistant with the team from 2002-2003. He also was part of Michigan's last national title as an assistant in Ann Arbor from 1996-2001.

He has some previous head coaching experience, with Marshall from 1983-1985 and with Kansas State from 1986-1988. He has also been an assistant with Rutgers and Wabash College and a graduate assistant with Purdue.
