Illness Ends Somebeachsomewhere Career
Dover, DE (Sports Network) - Leading Horse of the Year candidate Somebeachsomewhere has been scratched from Monday's Matron Stakes elimination race at Dover Downs due to illness. The three-year-old pacer came down with a high temperature and will not finish his career in next Monday's $249,113 Matron Stakes final at the Delaware track.This year Somebeachsomewhere earned a single-season-record $2.44 million with 14 wins in 15 starts. In his two year career, the colt won 20 of 21 starts for $3.22 million. His lone career loss was to Art Official by a neck in this year's Meadowlands Pace. Somebeachsomewhere, owned by the Schooner Stables and trained by Brent MacGrath, won the $500,000 Breeders Crown pace at The Meadowlands on Saturday, November 29 by 1 3/4 lengths over Shadow Play in 1:48 3/5, it was the fastest in the race's history. Beginning next year the colt will stand as a stallion at Hanover Shoe Farms in Pennsylvania.
