Later in the first quarter, Steele made it a 14-0 game on a nine-yard touchdown run.

Memphis continued to rely on the running game in the second quarter, as Black scored on runs of 36 and two yards to sent the Tigers into the locker room with a 28-0 cushion.

The Tigers opened the second half with a nearly six-minute drive, which ended with a 22-yard Matt Reagan field goal.

Tulane avoided the shutout on an eight-yard touchdown run by Casey Robottom at the 4:09 mark of the third quarter, although Ross Thevenot's extra-point attempt failed.

The Tigers padded their lead with a one-yard touchdown run by Black in the third quarter, and a one-yard touchdown plunge by Brandon Ross in the fourth.

With their running game firing on all cylinders, the Tigers racked up 32 first downs and held a 15-minute advantage in time of possession.
