Brett Favre didn't use a Green Bay Packers-issued cell phone to call the Minnesota Vikings, the Green Bay Press-Gazette reported.

The newspaper said two sources -- one from the NFL and one close to Favre -- claimed the quarterback does not have a cell phone from the team.

"One-hundred percent, without a doubt, no Packers-issued phone," a source told the Press-Gazette.

According to the newspaper, sources said there was no indication that the Packers have given cell phones to any of their players. The sources added that giving players phones would violate NFL salary-cap rules, unless the team included the cost of the phones on their salary cap.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Tuesday that Favre used a team-issued phone to contact Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress and assistant coach Darrell Bevell, a former Packers' quarterback coach.

The Packers previously filed tampering charges against the Vikings for allegedly making inappropriate contact with Favre, who announced his retirement in March before recently deciding that he wants to return to the NFL.

Favre is still under contract with the Packers.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, members of the NFL's security team visited the Vikings' headquarters in Minnesota on Tuesday to investigate the tampering charges.
