PHOENIX -- New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is an expert when it comes to scrambling on the football field, and that's probably a good thing.Brady needed all the skills he could call upon Tuesday when faced with hundreds of reporters and photographers lobbing every kind of question imaginable at the players, including marriage proposals and questions about his purpose in life.Media fired questions at the Patriots and Giants for two hours and at least one of the questions stumped the star player.
"That's a deep question. My purpose in life ...?" Brady said.He was asked why he thinks he's been given an international platform in life from which to speak."I throw a football, you know? And ... I'm happy to do that good enough to get here and have this platform but, I don't think any of us cure cancer," he said."Hopefully, we can all use this platform for things that may truly fulfilling in our life, whatever they may be," he said, but he stopped short of talking about team charities or even possible political aspirations. He said his most immediate focus is winning his next football game. The quarterback dodged another tricky question when a Mexican entertainment reporter named Inez, dressed in a full white wedding gown and veil, told him she was in love with him and asked him to marry her."I'm sorry, I'm taken," said the quarterback, who is involved with Brazilian super model Gisele Bundchen. His previous girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan, gave birth last summer to Brady's son in Los Angeles."I've never had a proposal," Brady said, asking the reporter her name and complimenting her on it.As Brady fielded questions, other media members, including a former "American Idol" contestant, chased down other players and asked them questions. Most of them took it all in stride."I don't think I've seen this big of a crowd," one player said, referring to the 3,000 credential media members who showed up to shout questions and take pictures. One youngster who managed to get credentialed got extremely lucky when Giants quarterback Eli Manning picked him out of the crowd. The kid reporter got his story on media day at University of Phoenix Stadium. Manning and Plaxico Burress made sure of that. Brock Domann, 9, of Colorado Springs, Colo., is covering the Super Bowl for Scholastic News, and was standing among a mass of reporters on Tuesday when Manning picked him out for a question. "When you and Peyton Manning were kids and playing football, who was QB?" the youngster asked. A grown-up reporter tried to butt in with another question, but Manning waved him off and pointed to young Brock. "No, him," the Giants quarterback said. Then Manning told the boy that when he played with Peyton and his older friends, he was "permanent center." Big brother Peyton was the quarterback. Brock moved on to Burress, asking the Giants receiver what advice he would give to a kid who wanted to play professional football. Burress listened, then brought the youngster onto the podium with him. "You see all these people here?" Burress said, his arm around the boy's shoulder. "You see all those seats? They're all going to be filled Sunday. You see this podium with my name on it? I'm telling you, it's the greatest feeling in the world. So my advice to you is, a lot of hard work." Brock is in Arizona with his 12-year-old sister Rylee and 10-year-old brother JoJo, who also worked media day for Scholastic News.Patriots receiver Randy Moss looked over the microphone at the dozens of reporters in front of him and his eyes widened. For a guy who's seen his share of heavy coverage during the New England Patriots' playoff run, even this was a little much. "They said how hectic it was going to be with all the cameras and all the flashes, but I guess I was a little stunned to come out here and see everybody here, especially waiting here at my booth," Moss said with a smile Tuesday during media day for the Super Bowl."It is an experience, and I'm enjoying every second of it."
