(Sports Network) - Two-time winner Carlos Moya and reigning champion Xavier Malisse were among Wednesday's second-round winners at the season-opening Chennai Open tennis tournament.

The third-seeded Moya held off Russian qualifier Alexandre Kudryavtsev 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, while an unseeded Malisse won his seventh straight match at this event by dousing sixth-seeded Austrian Jurgen Melzer 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. The Belgian Malisse topped another Austrian, Stefan Koubek, in last year's Chennai finale. The Spanish Moya titled here in 2004 and 2005 and was the runner-up in 2006.

Moya's quarterfinal opponent will be Frenchman Florent Serra, while Malisse will take on tough fourth-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny.

In other second-round action, Youzhny outlasted France's Edouard Roger- Vasselin 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 and Serra edged out Belgian Kristof Vliegen 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) on Day 3.

On Thursday, top-seeded Spanish star Rafael Nadal will play his second-round match against American qualifier Rajeev Ram on the hardcourts at SDAT Tennis Stadium.

Chennai serves as a tune-up for the Australian Open, which will get underway January 14.
