Some local high school athletes who spoke Wednesday about accusations that the New England Patriots spied on the New York Jets during last weekend's season-opening game.

NewsCenter 5's Jim Boyd reported that most of the students are also devoted fans of the team and said that they see the accusations as no big deal.

"It's that players that win the Super Bowls. I think if teams are making a big deal of it, they're just trying to bring down the best team in football," one student said.

"The Patriots won the game, I think, not because of the fact that they were cheating, but because they have a lot more talent than the Jets," another student said.

"If they did it, that's wrong of them, but, you know, innocent until proven guilty," another student said.

"Obviously, that doesn't send a great message to anyone, but I like to give them the benefit of the doubt. I mean, they're my team. I think they're the best team in the league, and I don't think they need to be doing that," another student said.

"It's all about good sportsmanship, just leaving it out on there on the field or court or whatever, you know, cheating isn't the way to go," another student said.

The players said that they believe the Pats' success does not come from bending the rules.

"The talent on the team obviously is what got them to win. No pictures can get Ellis Hobbs to run past everybody on your team or Randy Moss to run past everybody on your team and score touchdowns," another student said.
