WASHINGTON -- The New England Patriots received a presidential honor Tuesday, accepting the congratulations of President Bush on their Super Bowl victory.
In a Rose Garden ceremony, Bush talked about the character of the players as well as their success on the field."They're not only a team with great heart and toughness, they're also a good group of guys," Bush said. "They were champs on the field and, more importantly, champs off the field, by sending not only a clear message about the importance of teamwork, but about the importance of serving something greater than yourself in life."Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady was in attendance, as was quarterback Drew Bledsoe, who had missed many of the previous victory celebrations. Patriots owner Bob Kraft and coach Bill Belichick presented a Patriots jersey and football to Bush."We're happy our Super Bowl journey started with his dad tossing the coin, and we're happy to complete it right here today and make him an honorary captain," Kraft said. Two New Hampshire men also attended the festivities. Wounded Merrimack, N.H., soldier Kyle McGovern and Patriots Fan of the Year Randy Zip Price were invited to meet the players and President Bush.McGovern was injured last month in Afghanistan.
