She plays center, handles the ball and has a soft scoring touch. Walpole High's Nicole Wolff recently joined the ranks of the elite players in the country.

This week's High 5 Player of the Week, Wolff scored her 2,000th point recently, marking another milestone in her stellar basketball career.

"I was surprised and happy," Wolff said. "Happy to have it over with, but happy to finally accomplish it."

The senior deflects individual attention as routinely as she sticks a jumps shot. She was also named to the McDonald's All-American High School team.

"It's just fun. It's not real, really," Wolff said. "Lately, it's been a little bit much, but it's just enjoyable, and it's a fun time in my life right now."

Her coach said that Wolff is a quality person off the court, as well.

"You wouldn't know," head coach Steve Waisgerber said. "You wouldn't know that this is a player who scores 2,000 points, who's been recruited by virtually every school in the country. She takes it in stride. Her humility, I think, is one of her greatest attributes, and she's just another one of our players here on this team, a very special one, though."

Wolff comes from a basketball family. Her dad, Dennis, is the head coach of men's basketball at Boston Univeristy. Nicole is headed for Division I herself next season, and will play for perennial powerhouse University of Connecticut.

"I'd just like to thank my parents and all my coaches and teammates," Wolff said.

High 5, a weekly look at a Massachusetts high school athlete, is in its 17th year of providing Channel 5 viewers an in-depth look at one of the Bay State's finest. Check here every week to see who Mike Lynch picks to win this week's award.
