Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Bears have acquired strong safety Adam Archuleta from the Washington Redskins in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick.

According to a report in the Chicago Tribune, Archuleta agreed to a restructured contract and will make $8.1 million over the next three years, including a $5 million bonus.

The 29-year-old Archuleta signed a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Redskins last March. He started the first seven games of the season, but then went seven weeks without playing a snap on defense, while being used sparingly on special teams. He finished the campaign with 60 tackles and just one sack.

The 20th overall pick in the 2001 draft by St. Louis, Archuleta's best season came in 2002 when he recorded a career-best 116 tackles. He also had 15 sacks in his five seasons with the Rams.

Archuleta is expected to be the Bears' starting strong safety alongside Danieal Manning.
