BOSTON -- A bridge expansion joint problem on I-290 in Worcester caused at least one accident and several vehicles to get flat tires on Sunday morning.
State police said cold temperatures caused the expansion joint near exit 20 to dislodge and protrude from the ground at about 11 a.m. As a result, a tractor-trailer collided with one vehicle. No injuries were reported.
Authorities said at least eight vehicles received flat tires after driving over the expansion joint.
Crews from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation were able to make repairs to the roadway.
By about 1 p.m., all damaged vehicles were either repaired or removed from the highway. All lanes of traffic were reopened and moving freely.
