NEW YORK -- A top Republican in Congress wants a congressional investigation into the documents used by CBS News in a story about President George W. Bush's service in the National Guard. Some document experts are questioning whether a memo that was said to have come from one of Bush's commanders at the time was actually a fake. That memo indicated that Bush didn't follow orders to take a physical -- and that the commander was being pressured to boost Bush's performance ratings. A CBS News official said, "We continue to believe in this story." But Republican U.S. Rep. Chris Cox of California said there's a "growing abundance of evidence that CBS News has aided and abetted fraud." He wants a House subcommittee on telecommunications to look into the network's use of the documents. CBS hasn't commented on the request.According to CBS, Texans for Truth, a private anti-Bush group, offered a $50,000 reward for anyone who could prove Bush's claim that he fulfilled his service requirements.
