Presidential hopeful and Democratic frontrunner Howard Dean brought his presidential campaign to Boston Wednesday.

NewsCenter 5's Janet Wu reported that Dean took several shots from his rivals during Tuesday night's debate at the University Of New Hampshire. Most of the heat was over the timing of his endorsement from former Vice President Al Gore.

Dean is scheduled to attend a fund-raiser in Boston that will feature a performance by Carly Simon Wednesday night. Dean hopes to raise $250,000.

Even with the polls showing a double-digit lead over his competition, Dean is trying not to look or sound too confident.

"The truth is that people who vote are the ones who decide the nominee. I don't buy any of this frontrunner stuff. We are just going to work like we are 25 points behind, " said Dean.

On Wednesday, Sen. John Kerry accused Dean of supporting a resolution that would have allowed President George W. Bush to go to war with Iraq without congressional approval.

"Howard Dean on Oct. 6 (2002), five days before we voted, supported a resolution that gave the president authority to go to war," said Kerry. "I think I showed leadership and clarity, and I think Howard Dean has, frankly, tried to fudge it."

Dean said Kerry was just trying to get away from the fact he voted for the war and said he and Kerry should stick to the issues.

"What we talked about is the need to concentrate on issues we have in common and those issues are jobs, health care and education," said Dean.

After Tuesday's debate, Kerry said he wanted to stick to the issues of the race, not poll numbers.

"People want a leader who can make America safer in the world. People want health care for themselves and their kids. I'm going to provide that health care. That is what this race is about and I'm not answering any more questions about polls from now until the elections," said Kerry.

Kerry will make a campaign stop in the Bay State Thursday.
