From an appearance on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" to a visit to New Hampshire, Sen. John Kerry made the rounds in an attempt to salvage his presidential campaign.

NewsCenter 5's Janet Wu reported that on Sunday, Kerry fired his campaign manager and both his campaign press secretary and deputy finance director quit Tuesday.

On Wednesday, it was a quiet walk through the New Hampshire woods -- a nature hike to highlight the importance of the environment. It was a stark contrast to Kerry's appearance on TV Tuesday night.

Kerry admitted to Leno that the campaign has been a humbling experience, but vowed he's got a strategy to win.

"I credit him. He is running a good campaign, but we are coming at him now. When I am finished, he will make a great surgeon general," Kerry said.

Kerry accused President George W. Bush Wednesday of caving to the business community at the expense of the environment, claiming to be the only candidate with the experience to fight special interest. But he spent most of his time explaining how he can overcome Howard Dean's lead and endorsements. Dean received the nod from the country's two largest public employee unions Wednesday.

"I'm going to have the endorsement of citizens of New Hampshire where they vote. This is not about endorsements, but your vision of America and who can be president," Kerry said..

Kerry will try to convince New Hampshire Democrats that only he can beat Bush and that his campaign is not in turmoil.

"We are doing just fantastically, and I like what I did," Kerry said. "I think this is like Grady Little and Pedro. I made the move that he did, but we are still going to win the World Series. Just watch."

Kerry is changing strategy investing two or three days a week from now to primary day in New Hampshire -- a must win state.

Meanwhile, his campaign sent out an eight-page e-mail Wednesday, questioning Dean's temperament and "short fuse" and "arrogance."
