BOSTON -- Boston Mayor Tom Menino returned home Wednesday one week after he entered a rehabilitation hospital, recovering from knee surgery.Menino, 66, had the surgery at Brigham and Women's hospital on Nov. 9 after he fell while bringing takeout food home to his son's house. Three days after undergoing knee surgery, Menino entered Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital for physical therapy."The mayor is recovering well and will, as planned, continue with physical therapy at home," Menino's office said in a statement.Menino, who is the city's longest serving mayor and was elected to an unprecedented fifth term earlier this month, appreciates the outpouring of support and well wishes and looks forward to getting back out to the neighborhoods soon, his office said.The mayor underwent arthroscopic surgery in October 2008 to repair a right knee injury he suffered during a Red Sox World Series victory rally at Fenway Park the previous autumn.In that fall, he tore cartilage when he stumbled while carrying the team's trophy off a stage.Menino has had previous surgeries for Crohn's disease and a rare form of skin cancer in both 2003 and 2004.
