A new proposal on Beacon Hill could mean changes to where smokers can light up even if they're puffing outside.

Currently in Massachusetts, smokers are prohibited from smoking inside public buildings. The new proposal calls for smokers to stay 25 feet away from a door, window or ventilation system.

Reaction to the proposal is mixed.

"I'm an ex-smoker, and I don't like cigarette smoke, and it's posted on a lot of these buildings that you're not supposed to smoke and people still do, and I think that's a great idea," Frank Callahan of South Boston said.

"I'm a smoker so I usually just try to stay away from the door, but I really don't think there should be a law double-dabbing me. And it's bad enough that I gotta pay $8 for a pack of smokes, you know?" Bill Bryant of Boston said.

There will be a public hearing on the proposal on Tuesday at the Statehouse.
