Victims’ rights advocates are trying to make sure a state senator accused of trying to grope a woman does not get to vote on pending sex offender legislation.

The Boston Herald reported that even though Sen. James Marzilli will not seek re-election, he can still return to the State House for votes.

The Herald reported dozens of bills affecting sex offenders are waiting to be voted on.

Marzilli was arrested earlier this week after being accused of lewd acts and making lewd comments toward a woman in Lowell.

He was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, attempting to commit a crime, assault and battery and obstruction of justice.

He has been admitted to McLean Hospital, a psychiatric hospital in Belmont.
