BOSTON -- The ongoing feud between Gov. Deval Patrick and House Speaker Sal DiMasi got a little more high profile Thursday with a front-page New York Times story about the Bay State's most-watched family feud.NewsCenter 5's Liz Brunner reported that DiMasi and Patrick were all jovial and united as they walked into a Senate transportation news conference Thursday. But the elephant in the room was the Gray Lady, also known as the New York Times, and its front-page story about the on-going feud between the Beacon Hill titans.
VIDEO: Political Feud Goes High ProfilePatrick went national in his blame of DiMasi for legislative control and old-style politics that doomed his casino bill.Patrick told the Times, "It's part of what we ran against, and it needs to be called out."But on Thursday, the governor tried to pave over the serial rift."What I expressed to the Times is what I have sometimes expressed to you -- my frustration that occasional indifferences, and we had a sharp one, over the resort casino proposal. You know that. But it was a difference. It doesn't mean that there isn't good work that gets done and that we continue to do," Patrick said.DiMasi offered a tempered response."I have no reaction that's adverse to any of the language that was used in the papers. Obviously, the papers are used to put forth a twist or a bend on something. And sometimes that's not reality, and the reality is I'm working with the governor," DiMasi said. One Beacon Hill observer had some advice for the governor."Deval Patrick, now, has to learn how to win again just like he did becoming governor -- winning over state reps, winning over state senators and continuing to win over public opinion," political analyst Mary Anne Marsh said.
