CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Republican John McCain is calling the GOP contest still very competitive but says his South Carolina win gives him momentum heading into the next big battle in Florida. The Arizona senator won in South Carolina Saturday.

McCain in Charleston on Sunday morning took a swipe at Rudy Giuliani. Former mayor Giuliani avoided the early primary states to make his first big stand in Florida. McCain said he expected to come under heavy criticism from the rival.

McCain clearly was buoyed by his second this season after winning the New Hampshire primary. In 2000, McCain lost South Carolina to George Bush.
