The legislature is considering five proposals to guarantee a woman's right to breastfeed in public. Massachusetts is one of only four states that do not have laws allowing nursing in public.NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that the mothers who have been lobbying legislators to pass new laws call themselves "lactivists," and they took their message to Beacon Hill Wednesday.Among the proposals under consideration at the State House are a law that would guarantee a woman's right to nurse in public or in the workplace. Women in Massachusetts have been charged with indecent exposure for nursing in public.Proposals also include bills introduced in the House and Senate that would also provide tax dollars through the Department of Public Health that would pay for a public information campaign.A third bill would require the licensing of lactation consultants.
