Carcillo Scores Twice As Flyers Take Down Sabres

POSTED: 11:56 pm EST November 6, 2009

(Sports Network) - Ray Emery made 28 saves to help the Philadelphia Flyers take a 5-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres at HSBC Arena.

Daniel Carcillo scored twice while Chris Pronger had a goal and an assist for the Flyers, who have won three straight. James van Riemsdyk and Darroll Powe each lit the lamp in the game.

"Our lines have been playing real good," said Carcillo. "I wanted to help in the points production and the goal scoring. It feels really good to get that monkey off my back and get a couple of goals."

Derek Roy had a goal and an assist while Tyler Myers also had a goal for the Sabres, who had won five of six coming into the contest. Ryan Miller was charged with four goals on 36 shots in the loss.

"We didn't establish a forecheck early on," said Roy. "We came out a little better in the second period, but they got that goal and it put a damper on our game."

Philadelphia drew first blood in the game with 1:21 to play in the first period as Braydon Coburn cranked a big slap shot from the left point that Carcillo tipped out of the air and into the net.

Pronger made it a 2-0 game just 28 seconds into the second period as his wrister from the left point beat Miller.

Skating on the power play, Buffalo cut its deficit in half. Jason Pominville let fly with a one-timer from the left point that missed the net, but it hit off the backboards and went to the right side where Roy tapped it in just four minutes after the Pronger goal.

However, van Riemsdyk made it a 3-1 game with 5:05 left in the second period with his third goal of the season.

At the 2:34 mark of the third, Powe's slap shot from the high slot got past Miller for a 4-1 advantage.

The Sabres again used the power play as Myers' third goal of the season with 9:26 to play made it a 4-2 contest.

Buffalo pulled Miller late in the game for an extra attacker, but Carcillo sealed the win with an empty-netter.
